The Ministry of Culture will participate in the LAMPA conversation festival
On June 30 the Ministry of Culture will organize a debate in the LAMPA conversation festival on copyright and ethics „TO STEAL.. OR TO TAKE SAFELY?”
Together we will try to find answers to the following questions:
- Is it ethical to listen to music, watch movies and read e-books without paying royalties?
- Why does it seem acceptable to pay for electricity, but not, for example, for listening to music?
- What are the benefits / losses of listening, watching, reading legal / pirated music, movies or e-books?
- Who should copyright holders / their representative organizations hold accountable for? – Persons uploading the pirated content? – End-user?
- Where and how to find legal content?
The participants: Ilona Pētersone (Head of the Copyright Department of the Ministry of Culture), Linda Zommere (Senior Legal Adviser, Copyright Department of the Ministry of Culture), Sergejs Timoņins (co-founder of Kinoblogeri.lv and the cinema project Spektrs), Kristaps Tālbergs (musician, member of the group Irvin Ark), Uldis Zariņš (Director of the National Library Development Department).
The LAMPA conversation festival celebrates democratic culture and provides an open, engaging and joyful environment for vigorous and enthralling conversations for everyone who cares about Latvia and the world. The festival’s home is the Cēsis castle park. Entrance to the festival is free of charge.
